Green Dress Update!

Ignore the look on my face; I had just eaten a chocolate chip pancake with hot sauce, and remembered that I really don't like the taste of vinegar in my spicy things ^_^

This is my friend's daddy, by the way. He is the one that challenged me to eat a pancake with hot sauce in the first place.

But, yes. Green dress. On me.

Girls With Slingshots

Girls With Slingshots is one of my favorite webcomics. I think I came across it while doing the "I really don't want to be doing what I should be doing" dance across the internet, clicking links and going where they take me, and clicking more links.
It took me a few days to go through all the comics, but I got though all of them, and, as I was reading, I came across this:
It's in the middle of the story, and unless you've read the rest, it doesn't make all that much sense. But that's not the point.
The point is.
That dress.
That green dress of "DEAR SWEET JESUS I WANT IT"
As soon as I saw it, I knew that I "had" to have it.
It is times like these that I love being able to sew, and, being so good at winging it without a pattern.

So what was I to do?

Psht. Make it, of course.

Last Saturday, that's exactly what I did.

I got to use my "new" serger, given to me as a hand-me-down by my grandmother.
I finally figured out how to work it, and I GOT TO USE IT ON THE KNIT FABRIC.

I spent a lot of Saturday yelling "I HAVE SO MANY SERGER FEELINGS" to my family.

It was a good time.

'SPECIALLY NOW THAT I HAVE MY OWN VERSION OF JAMIE'S DRESS

Pictures of me wearing it shall be forthcoming... whenever I get around to taking a decent picture. haha

à bientôt!

Nirvana

This is the place my best friend, Ryan, took me today.
Since we both work, we meet up on Fridays to make sure we see each other at least once a week.
We sat in Nirvana, which is what he calls it, and ate pizza and talked...and occasionally dodged Frisbees. Apparently, Nirvana is a Frisbee Golf course.

We were on top of a hill, which made me think of the lyrics of "Life for Love" by my favorite band, Enter the Haggis: "Arms stretched, to catch the next horizon, a line to keep your eyes on, and I'm inclined to stare"

I can definitely see why he calls it Nirvana.

Corsetting

A few nights ago, I got a text from my friend, Lindsay, asking if I was doing anything on Saturday.
She suggested we start a sewing project we had been planning since last summer:

Corsets.

I met her at the local Joann, and we bought patterns, one that we (mostly) made Saturday, one that we're saving for a later date. (The ones we are saving for a later date are more like steampunky waist-cinchers, the ones we did today we plan on wearing to the Ren Faire.)

We had no clue what we were getting ourselves in to.
Goofy Lindsay is goofy.

From about 1:30 to 9, we pretty much continuously worked on these goshdarn corsets.
Linsday sewing dilligently

I hope it ends up being worth it-- specifically, my many trials in this corset-making venture.

First, I neglected to follow the seam allowances, because that's how I tend to roll. I'm quite stubborn.
I had to sew every seam TWICE, to make each seam allowance bigger. *sigh*
Then, I realized that I had sewn in one of the panels backwards. (thankfully, it was before I sewed in the second seams. Crisis averted.)

Me, being extremely goofy with my half a corset.

I think this will be worth it, though.
