Meh?

I've just had zero motivation to write anything lately.
That, and I haven't really done anything SUPER exciting.

Well, I went to a lake on Saturday with a friend that I made a few weeks ago. We were going to go hiking as well, but he said it might rain (of course it didn't) so we left early.

Then I had friends over to go swimming on Sunday (including this new friend).

And...yeah. I've just kinda been derping about, wallowing in my wanderlust, and reading Doctor Who transcripts during work when I don't have anything to do.

Hopefully I'll have something to talk about in the next week, because I'm boring even myself.

Green Dress Update!

Ignore the look on my face; I had just eaten a chocolate chip pancake with hot sauce, and remembered that I really don't like the taste of vinegar in my spicy things ^_^

This is my friend's daddy, by the way. He is the one that challenged me to eat a pancake with hot sauce in the first place.

But, yes. Green dress. On me.

Girls With Slingshots

Girls With Slingshots is one of my favorite webcomics. I think I came across it while doing the "I really don't want to be doing what I should be doing" dance across the internet, clicking links and going where they take me, and clicking more links.
It took me a few days to go through all the comics, but I got though all of them, and, as I was reading, I came across this:
It's in the middle of the story, and unless you've read the rest, it doesn't make all that much sense. But that's not the point.
The point is.
That dress.
That green dress of "DEAR SWEET JESUS I WANT IT"
As soon as I saw it, I knew that I "had" to have it.
It is times like these that I love being able to sew, and, being so good at winging it without a pattern.

So what was I to do?

Psht. Make it, of course.

Last Saturday, that's exactly what I did.

I got to use my "new" serger, given to me as a hand-me-down by my grandmother.
I finally figured out how to work it, and I GOT TO USE IT ON THE KNIT FABRIC.

I spent a lot of Saturday yelling "I HAVE SO MANY SERGER FEELINGS" to my family.

It was a good time.

'SPECIALLY NOW THAT I HAVE MY OWN VERSION OF JAMIE'S DRESS

Pictures of me wearing it shall be forthcoming... whenever I get around to taking a decent picture. haha

Nirvana

This is the place my best friend, Ryan, took me today.
Since we both work, we meet up on Fridays to make sure we see each other at least once a week.
We sat in Nirvana, which is what he calls it, and ate pizza and talked...and occasionally dodged Frisbees. Apparently, Nirvana is a Frisbee Golf course.

We were on top of a hill, which made me think of the lyrics of "Life for Love" by my favorite band, Enter the Haggis: "Arms stretched, to catch the next horizon, a line to keep your eyes on, and I'm inclined to stare"

I can definitely see why he calls it Nirvana.

Corsetting

A few nights ago, I got a text from my friend, Lindsay, asking if I was doing anything on Saturday.
She suggested we start a sewing project we had been planning since last summer:

Corsets.

I met her at the local Joann, and we bought patterns, one that we (mostly) made Saturday, one that we're saving for a later date. (The ones we are saving for a later date are more like steampunky waist-cinchers, the ones we did today we plan on wearing to the Ren Faire.)

We had no clue what we were getting ourselves in to.
Goofy Lindsay is goofy.

From about 1:30 to 9, we pretty much continuously worked on these goshdarn corsets.
Linsday sewing dilligently

I hope it ends up being worth it-- specifically, my many trials in this corset-making venture.

First, I neglected to follow the seam allowances, because that's how I tend to roll. I'm quite stubborn.
I had to sew every seam TWICE, to make each seam allowance bigger. *sigh*
Then, I realized that I had sewn in one of the panels backwards. (thankfully, it was before I sewed in the second seams. Crisis averted.)

Me, being extremely goofy with my half a corset.

I think this will be worth it, though.

NEW JOB...and other things

I HAVE A NEW JOB AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH.
Gonna secretary it up like a boss.
*giggles*
I AM SO EXCITED.

In other news, things I am planning:
Getting my mom's sewing machine fixed so I can make this:

Pretty dress is pretty... AND HAS POCKETS!

and these:

(tutorial from dobleufa)

to go on one of THESE:

(tutorial from PrudentBaby)

AH I'M SO EXCITED!
ALSO
Could you possibly hope for the best, so Ally can come to the beach with me?
It depends on some things, and we'd both really like them to work out in our favor.
HELP ME HOPE, PLEASE!

ALSO ALSO.
I'm in the process of getting a car. His name is Alonso (even though I don't actually have him yet.)
Why is he named Alonso, you ask?
It is so I can shout "ALLONS-Y, ALONSO!" every time I go somewhere.
It shall be terribly exciting, as the life of a Whovian (one who watches Doctor Who) often is!
Now I need to get myself a "My other vehicle is a TARDIS" bumper sticker.... *laughs evilly*

Zzzzzz....

This job.... So tiring. I'm not complaining....yet. Hahaha. Between my job and sleeping, I haven't been left with much time for...well, much of anything, really.
I'm looking for another job so that I'll have more time with my friends...
And I'm waiting for the seeing machine to be fixed so I can start sewing stuff again. So many ideas, so little sewing machine...I'll definitely post about the sewing as soon as I get up and sewing again!

CORN NUTS.

I found that it's almost impossible for me to say "corn nuts" without an outrageous hillbilly accent.

These are the things I discover when I babysit my cousins.

...Funteims?

Oh gosh... It's been almost a week since I last posted.
I started a new job on Monday, scanning stuff in a warehouse for 7 hours a day, 4 days a week.
Let me just tell you, it's draining.
And kinda lonely.
Today was the first time I saw my family since Sunday, because I work 5pm to midnight, and both my parents work and my brothers are still in school. I got to hang out with Ally a ton though, because we work together.
Honestly, I miss my other friends though, too, and I wish I had a bit of a break before I started working.
Oh well.
Such is life.
Hopefully I'll have done something rather more interesting by the next time I post, so that I can actually be interesting. ^_^

Oh. My. Whedon.

I...I just... I am having trouble expressing the feelings I have for the Avengers. That is probably the first superhero movie that I've seen and immediately wanted to see again. I am probably going to take my brothers next weekend. SO I CAN SEE IT AGAIN! The dialogue was so Joss Whedon; witty at the most random times, along with spectacular comedic timing. Just... aaaauuuuggggh. So beauteous.
I just have a lot of nerd feelings, ok?
If Joss Whedon wasn't my leader before, I have no doubt that I would have been converted.

I want this as a poster. So. Badly.
(Too bad it was designed specifically for Forbidden Planet as a display poster)

FINALLY.

I AM FINALLY IN SUMMER MODE.

This is lovely.

My first full day of summer vacation.
So far, I have a job, with the possibility of another job.
Not all that pleased about getting a job, but my parents insisted. I do need to save money for grad school, and travelling, and... existing, unfortunately. Blah.
I also don't want to be bored all summer while my other friends work.

Oh well.

But I'm going to see The Avengers tonight. I am quite excited. Usually, I don't gravitate towards superhero movies, but... JOSS WHEDON. Therefore, I must see it. I kind of automatically love anything that Joss Whedon has done, because he is basically a nerd god. *grins*

Avengers, ASSEMBLE!

TOMORROW!!!!

TOMORROWTOMORROWTOMORROW
Tomorrow is my last final.
Tomorrow I go home.
Tomorrow I have a job interview.
TOMORROW!
This week has been so so so long.
I NEED SUMMER.

Monday, May 7, 2012

I may or may not have lied a little bit.

I'm kinda really super excited to start blogging for the summer, so I guess you'll all have to deal with my blogging through finals week as well! It's ok, I'll only post the interesting bits.

At this point, though, I'd just like to talk about one thing.
Quiet hours during finals week.
When they say 24 hour quiet hours, you would expect people to shut up, or at least significantly decrease their noise, right?
Nope.
I was awake until almost 3 am last night because my neighbors were talking (at their normal level, which is ridiculously loud) and giggling and playing music (Their taste in music is questionable. Some of it is good, like the Killers. But they also have the tendency to listen to songs on repeat. for HOURS. Because of them, I can no longer listen to Ingrid Michaelson's You and I. Ever.)
Thankfully, my first (and only) final today is at 2:30. I got to sleep until 12 with no problems.

I guess this wasn't the best way to start finals week, with complaining, but, eh. I promise no more complaining unless it's super important!

Off to my super-exciting Sensation and Perception test!
p.s.- The layout of this blog may or may not go through a lot of changes during the summer. I like playing around with programming languages, and I'm trying to teach myself at least something this summer!

Pre-Summer Post

I won't start posting until... probably the 13th, because I am still in school, therefore it is not officially summer for me yet.

So, stay tuned for future funsies!
